Gen
III Turbo Kit
Introduction
Why Turbocharge your LS-1? CAPA's testing to date has
shown that a single turbo system gives LS-1 owners greater
low down boost and torque than any positive displacement
LS-1 kit that we have tested to date.
With all Supercharger and Turbocharger kits there are
compromises in every vehicle application. Some engines
and engine bays lend themselves towards using a valley
type supercharger as they have no room on the sides
of the engine while some engines are high, with little
bonnet clearance but have plenty of room on the sides
of the engine bay. So it is really up to the kit manufacturer
to build the best kit to suit the application.
CAPA have built a turbo kit specifically designed with
low down grunt and great mid range power in mind. This
kit compliments our Vortech Supercharger Kits which
create a more linear power delivery.
Some manufacturers in the marketplace have decided to
adopt a twin turbo style system. After developing our
own twin turbo system, we decided it was not the way
to go.
Having a single turbo system has it's advantages:
The turbocharger oil drains into the sump and does not
require an Oil scavenger pump. Scavenger pump failure
can cause damage to the turbos or engine (On a twin
turbo system, oil is pumped to the sump due to the inability
to drain oil from the turbos)
Heat is easily ventilated from the engine bay. On a
twin turbo system, high heat from the turbos is evident
at the foot wells, being positioned just in front of
them.
The turbo sits high in the engine bay, this prevents
the possibility of the turbo becoming damaged by objects
which could possibly pass under the vehicle. |

About
Born of a need for LS1 Turbocharged performance
the CAPA Intercooled Turbocharger kit uses latest
technology state of the art turbocharger design
and manufacturing principles to ensure both optimum
torque and consistent durability over the lifetime
of your vehicle
400kw of genuine turbocharged power and over 650Nm
from 2200rpm – 5500rpm are available instantly
with the CAPA turbo system at a twitch of the
throttle. This is the CAPA secret, swift response,
rapid acceleration, with all the benefits of excellent
emission control, near stock fuel economy, and
a torque curve unmatched by any other type of
LS1 forced induction.
Countless hours of engineering by a team of experienced
engineers, tuners, and fabricators have gone into
making CAPA's Turbo Kit a product that not only
works superbly, and exactly as specified, but
also one that has aesthetically attractive quality
attributes. Bottom line is that that CAPA's Turbo
Kit both looks, and works, great. |

Quality
All CAPA turbocharger kits are manufactured to
the highest quality levels. Heart of the system
is a Garrett Ball Bearing Single turbocharger
rated at 500kw maximum output. Being from one
of the largest original equipment turbocharger
manufacturers in the world, extreme durability
is our guarantee.
Fabricated parts of the manifold, such as the
turbocharger manifolds and crossover assembly
are fabricated from high temperature resistant
stainless steel, all welded by qualified tradesman
using the GTAW welding process. With a 'purge'
weld finish to ensure no weld intrusion into the
pipework, and then hand finished for maximum gasflow
potential, faultless construction is guaranteed.
Maximising charge air cooling without restricting
system pressure is the CAPA intercooler system.
Featuring cast end tanks, a high volume tube and
fin core, with mandrel bent aluminium pipework
light weight and excellent efficiency are guaranteed.
Engine tuning is carried out using a custom written
LS1 operating system, specifically written for
the CAPA Intercooled Turbo Project by HP Tuners.
A 2 bar (15psi) capable MAP sensor replaces the
low pressure factory item, and allows us to map
both fuel and ignition timing for every engine
load and rev position. With the knock sensor fully
active, and no airflow meter required, the tuning
system is truly state of the art. |

Dyno Reports
Conservative dynamometer test and tuning has showed that
our target power level of 350rwkw is achievable at just
over 0.5bar boost pressure. Torque output is phenomenal
with full boost, and massive torque available at the wheels
using only a little over 2500rpm. |

FAQ
Q. Can I install a CAPA system on my standard
engine?
A. Yes. CAPA's Gen III Turbo Kit is designed to me installed
and run on a completely internally standard engine with
only the addition of upgraded valve springs for additional
durability.
Q. How does CAPA's Turbo Kit respond compared to a supercharger?
A. With careful turbocharger matching and selection
we have achieved quicker boost response than is currently
available from any other method of forced induction
without critical air temperature, and hence efficiency
losses. CAPA's Gen III Turbo Kit is supreme at making
useable power straight off idle.
Q. When does my kit come on to boost?
A. Making boost low in the revs, hence optimising torque
was a critical goal for us in the development stage
of the CAPA turbocharger system. By 1800rpm 80% Of the
total boost pressure is available resulting in massive
torque gains at minimal engine speeds.
Q. How does CAPA's kit compare to other LS1 turbocharger
kits?
A. Designed primarily for everyday road rather than
competition use, CAPA's kit is optimised specifically
daily driving. Its this focus which has allowed us to
build a superior, and liveable turbocharger product.
Q. Will my fuel economy suffer?
A. Cruise fuel economy is 'as standard' with figures
as good as 8l/100km registered at a steady 100km/h cruising
speed. Obviously making full use of the available engine
power will result in increased fuel consumption.
Q. What type of fuel does CAPA's turbocharger kit require?
A. The tuning of the kit has been optimised for 98 Octane
Premium Unleaded fuel. Should this not be available
though we would recommend 96 octane unleaded at a minimum.
Sensing this the engine management system will automatically
reduce engine power.
Q. Do I need to service my turbocharger equipped car
more frequently?
A. While manufacturer servicing intervals are still
totally acceptable we would recommend oil change intervals
of 5000km due to potentially more exuberant driving
conditions.
Q. Can I fit a CAPA turbocharger kit to my all wheel
drive Adventra, Cross 8, or Coupe 4?
A. We looked into the all wheel drive segment carefully
when designing the kit and have allowed the necessary
clearance for the transfer case and all wheel drive
system. Go for it!
Q. What potential problems should I expect with a CAPA
turbocharger kit?
A. Frequent tyre replacement.
Q. How long does a CAPA turbocharger kit take to install
and tune?
A. One of our trained installation centres (TBA) should
be able to supply and fit your turbocharger kit within
two working days. |
